Sculpture Information

I have wanted to reproduce the form of Schwimmt one of my early works and attempted to do this on this piece of beautiful Spring Stone. However, as I carved, I found it moved away from the previous pieces repeated tessellation and had more of an asymmetric organic form, which I liked.  This is the result.

The piece can be exhibited in numerous orientations. In every position, it finds its centre of balance to reveal forms that can be interpreted as being abstract or echoing natural forms. We are all in a state of trying to find balance in our lives and reorientating ourselves in this fast-changing world and Equilibrium reflects this.

In Zimbabwe, Springstone is sealed by heating it to a high temperature with a blow torch (I use the oven) and then whilst it is hot it is painted with beeswax which gives a shiny finish.
