Alabaster is a translucence stone. When it is wet and lit, it reveals its grain and colour which lie within the stone. In this alabaster I could see a rough skin, like tree bark, and radial lines from its centre. I was going to carve a butterfly with symmetrical wings on either side but as part of the stone came away there was an odd number of segments. So, I worked towards making a slice of fruit with juicy segments. I carved down to the rough bark and kept it as the skin of the fruit.
